B'KATE Vegan Brow Cosmetics

post features samples

There's been such a strong focus on eyebrows for the past decade or so in the makeup realm hasn't there? With countless brow products to choose from, it's going to take something pretty special to standout from the crowd, which is exactly what Dutch brand B'KATE intends to do.

Founded by International Brow Artist Marlies Gregorius, B'KATE is all about high performance, top quality vegan -friendly brow cosmetics, designed to inspire confidence and authenticity. I have been trying the Brow Oil, Brow Gel and Brow Pencil and can confidently report that all three are lovely products.

First things first, I love the packaging this brand uses. It's sleek and quite sophisticated; it looks like it means business, if you know what I mean! Everything I've tried feels quite sturdy too - there's nothing flimsy about these products at all. Here's a bit more about the three bits I've tried out:

B'KATE Pro Brow Powder Pencil £14

I really like the Pro Brow Powder Pencil. It's a creamy powder formula with a handy spoolie on the other end. I have the shade 'Scott' which is a soft brown but you can also choose from Tatum, a dark brown and Leo, which is blonde. It's really soft, blendable and buildable, which I appreciate in a brow product because I have a habit of being a bit heavy handed and making my brows darker than intended, which results in wiping a lot of product off. I don't seem to have that issue with this pencil and find it really easy to work with. I don't fill in the my brows much because they are quite full anyway (with more and more random, white and wirey ones appearing) but I do add some definition through the length and fill in the inner corners a bit where the hair is a bit sparse. This pencil is the first I've used in quite some time - I usually stick to tinted gels and waxes - but I find it really user friendly and the colour I have blends in with my brows quite naturally.

B'KATE Castor Roll On Brow Oil £6.95

The Castor Roll on Brow Oil is basically what it says on the tin; a rollerball of 100% pure Castor Oil especially for your brows. Castor Oil is renowned for promoting hair growth and this little rollerball is an easy way of applying it to your brows. The soothing oil can be simply rolled on before makeup or applied a little more thickly as an overnight mask.

B'KATE Brow Gel £14

My favourite product of the three, the B'KATE Brow Gel is a clear gel with added Vitamin B5 to moisturise and add shine. This is a really nice brow grooming product - you only need a little bit to tame the brows, it doesn't feel sticky, doesn't dry stiff and I haven't noticed it flaking. I've used a swipe of this after the Pro Powder Pencil to make the hairs nice and tidy and lock the colour in place.

The products I've mentioned are really just a taster of the B'KATE brand - there are much more products to explore, including brushes, pomades and brow scissors.

The Hollywood Browzer Review

When I first read a review about the Hollywood Browzer I felt a bit intrigued and a little hesitant. Intrigued because, until this point I'd never had any kind of shaver near my face and afraid because the Browzer essentially looks like a Sweeney Todd-style cut throat razor.

Ok, if I think back a few months I do recall seeing something on Huda Beauty's Instagram about a razor for women to use on their peach fuzz. You know that invisible hair that makes itself known only when you've just carefully applied a layer of foundation? That. I didn't think that as a female i could actually use a blade to get rid of anything more than the peach fuzz - after all, doesn't shaving make the hair grow back about a trillion times thicker? My mustache is already darker and more pronounced than I would like it so I'll be damned if I'm going to make that situation any worse!
The Hollywood Browzer, however, is currently trying to convince me that razoring off my facial fuzz is not going to result in a full, Shoreditch-style beard.
This nifty little gadget may look a little like a somewhat deadly cut throat, but in reality it's much less intimidating. The foldable device flips open to reveal a stainless steel-waffle coated blade with safety guards on each side. This design ensures that it doesn't cut or irritate the skin so you can go about your grooming business without fear of nicking your skin/lopping off any of your facial extremities.
After taking it out of the packet and staring at it for a bit, I decided to give it a go on my upper lip. To use the Hollywood Browzer, you hold it at the non-bladed end (obviously) at a 45 degree-ish angle and gently swipe across the hair. After doing this on my mustache I noticed two things:
  1. My upper lip suddenly felt and looked as smooth as after I've waxed the hell out of it.
  2. It's actually weirdly satisfying and quite fun to see all the little hairs on the blade.
After I'd de-stached I had a go on the peach fuzz (fun), sideburns (really fun) and, as the finale I gave my brows a little tidy up (instant gratification). It's really quite a brilliant little tool!
As an upper lip-waxer, I've beco me accustomed to expecting redness for a good few hours after the deed is done, so it felt like an actual treat to remove the hair and not have the irritation afterwards.
The Hollywood Browzer is not just for the face, you can use it to tidy up the back of a hairy neck as well as the stomach and bikini line. Though to be honest I think I'd need an industrial-sized one for that.
The Hollywood Browzer is £15 (for two razors and a travel pouch) and you can find it at hollywoodbrowzer.com or Boots.

Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint - A Brow's Best Friend?

If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed my constant tweets declaring my love for Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint. I've tweeted and Instagrammed about this stuff to the point that I now feel like some kind of voluntary eyebrow ambassador for Hint of Tint. I'm not though. Not officially anyway.

Hint of Tint may not be a particularly new concept - a tinted eyebrow mascara so to speak, but it seems that Billion Dollar Brows have the formula, packaging, colour and brush completely spot on, which is a rare feat when it comes to virtually any product out there.

I actually won my dinky little tube of Hint of Tint in Billion Dollar Brows' #Browfie Twitter comp a few months back and have used nothing else on my brows since. That's not even a lie.

I have Hint of Tint in 'Taupe' - an ideal shade for anyone with a medium to dark hair colour but there is also a lighter shade for blondies and redheads.

Here's what Billion Dollar Brows have to say about Hint of Tint:

Colour and Control - All in One
'This bold blend of brow colour and hold comes in an easy-to-use tube. Perfect for when you are on-the- go and don’t have time to apply powder and gel. For a hassle-free, natural look, Hint of Tint brow Gel turns barely-there-brows into WOW Brows in an instant.'

I concur! The gel formula of Hint of Tint is really, really easy to apply with the mascara wand-like brush and it is very buildable. I either swipe it on quickly for a bit of hassle free grooming or spend a bit more time with it, shaping the brows and filling them in for a bit more of a dramatic look.

Overall it is a fantastic product. At £20, it's more expensive than a lot of the high street buys but it's worth mentioning that the little tube is still going strong and I've had it since Spring!
